Yes you are right, a RIGHT JOIN can be replaced simply by LEFT JOIN by switching tables, and there is no performance impact using either of them. But there are certain use cases where this can let you write simpler and cleaner code just by introducing RIGHT JOIN instead of refactoring your code by swapping tables and JOIN conditions. Will write a blog post on this to show a complex scenario made simple by using this type.
